OBITUARY
Blanch H Frederiksen
January 24, 1945 – March 9, 2023

Blanch Helen Dhabolt Frederiksen was born to Fred and Luella Dhabolt in Melcher-Dallas January 24, 1945 and passed at Kavanaugh House Hospice March 9, 2023.
Blanch graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963 and graduated from American Beauty School in 1964. She started working at Mademoiselle’s on Fleur Drive the day after her graduation from beauty school. Blanch then moved on to work for Maxine Hown for six years and owned her own beauty shop in Polk City for 17 years. Blanch worked at the Scottish Rite Park beauty shop for 33 years where she made her mark ensuring her clients who became friends looked their best and worked with her good friend, Robin VanHeeswyk for 23 years. While at Scottish Rite Park, Blanch also worked the reception desk welcoming and assisting residents and visitors for the past 15 years. Blanch enjoyed her time with the Polk City Order of the Eastern Star number 361 as a three-time Worthy Matron and their number one nut saleslady, as a volunteer of 20 years at Kavanaugh House Hospice, going to lunch with her Red Hat Ladies, and helping with the Women’s Health Study at the University of Iowa Hospitals for 30 years.
Blanch married Gary Frederiksen February 6, 1965. To that union were born her pride and joy, her children Brian (Colleen) Frederiksen and Pamela Dewey, grandchildren Noah Frederiksen, Ella Frederiksen, Alicia Dewey, and Kayla Dewey and great grandsons, Cashius, Kuntrell, and Devoni Morris.
Blanch is survived by siblings, Regina Devries, Harry Dhabolt, Lois (Jim) Aller, Ed (Janice) Karnes, James Karnes, and Dorothy Wallace.
Blanch was preceded in death by her parents, Luella and Fred Dhabolt, siblings Donald Dhabolt, Darold Dhabolt, Bernice Davis, Mildred Wallace, and Andy Wallace, and stepmother, Ruth Dhabolt.
Blanch’s visitation will take place Friday, March 17 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Polk City Masonic Temple, 106 N. 3rd Street, Polk City, Iowa. Parking is available behind the building and around the town square. Due to accessibility concerns, those needing handicap accessibility can let the family know and they will come outside to greet them in their vehicle at the Masonic Temple or will have time to talk to the family after the memorial service at Scottish Rite Park.
The memorial service will take place at Scottish Rite Park, 2909 Woodland Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa in the Penthouse on Saturday, March 18 at 2:00 PM. Refreshments will be served after the memorial. A private inurnment with the family will take place at a later date. Minimal parking will be available at Scottish Rite Park. Additional parking for the memorial service will be available at Ruby Van Meter School, located directly behind Scottish Rite at 710 28th Street, Des Moines, Iowa with a Majestic Limo shuttle to take you to the front doors of Scottish Rite Park. If you don’t see the shuttle when you arrive, please wait for its return. The shuttle will be available to return you to your vehicle until 4:30 PM.
