Richard Oscar Gran

Rich Gran, age 88, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019 at home surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his father James K. Gran, his mother Inga (Doley) Gran, stepmother Viola M. (Kramer) Gran and brother Jerry Gran. Rich was born July 30, 1931, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he made his home in California, ultimately setting roots in Whittier; Although, remained a faithful Green Bay Packers fan.

Richard worked for both Helm’s Bakery and Bell Brand Foods before joining his brother at Gran Construction until his retirement at 70 years old. He loved camping, cruising the open seas and family parties. Most of all, Rich will be remembered as a kind man who made people smile, and a doting grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ronnie (Esterman) Gran; his daughter Brenda (Gran) Craig (Steve); his son, Paul Gran; his daughter, Melissa (McPhee) Morrison (Eric); his son, Scott McPhee (Mara); his brother, Jim Gran (Nancy); grandchildren Adam, Alex, Miles, Ewan, Hank and Jonathan. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020. Please contact the family for details. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Rich’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association
