Obituary of Betty Jane Mausolf
Betty J. Mausolf, 81, gained her angel wings on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born in New London, CT on February 12, 1942, she was the daughter of Lucille and Paul K. Reid, Sr. Betty retired as a Budget Analyst for the U.S. Navy, and was the recipient of a Dept. of the Navy Distinguished Civilian Service Award. She was also a member of the American Society of Military Comptrollers. Betty was a member, and past president, of the local American Business Women’s Association. Her interests outside of work knew no bounds. Earlier in her married life, Betty and Carl Sr. enjoyed clogging and square dancing with the Rip Tides, and Betty made several of the dance outfits they wore. Active for many years as a bass singer with the Virginia Coast Chorus and the Calliope quartet, Betty enjoyed traveling with the group to competitions. She also made time to take short trips and long journeys (Alaska, the South West, and Newfoundland and Labrador) with her close friend Ann and the Young at Heart group at First Baptist Church of Norfolk. Betty, like her mother and son, loved to crochet, and often made blankets for Project Linus. She had a weak spot for rescue dogs, cherishing and spoiling her little protector Harley as well as her grand-dogs. Betty is survived by her son, Carl “Danny” Mausolf, Jr. (Frances Sansone); brother Paul K. Reid, Jr. (Jeanie); sister Kathy Greer (Michael); a host of nieces and nephews and many longtime dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents Lucille and Paul K. Reid, Sr. and ex-husband and father to her son, Carl Mausolf, Sr. The family thanks caretakers Debbie, Francesca and Tamara for the loving assistance and care they provided Betty, and the family, during her final weeks. Betty’s celebration of life will be Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 2 p.m., First Baptist Church, 312 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, VA. Interment will held this summer during a private ceremony at the family cemetery in Mt. Sterling, KY.
