Florence S. Formby

Florence Schmid Formby died peacefully at her home in Buellton on Thursday, January 26, at the age of 86. Born in Basel, Switzerland, Florence was a person of many talents and interests. She traveled the world, skied the Alps and was fluent in French and German. She is survived by her stepson, Mikkel Farber Formby of Denmark. In the 1980’s in Santa Barbara, Florence became a published scientist alongside her husband, Dr. Bent Formby, at the Sansum Diabetes Research Institute. But her love of architecture and history prompted her to become a Realtor, specializing in rentals and sales in Montecito, first with Pitts & Bachman and later with Village Properties. She loved her gardens, the ocean, Siamese cats, and silk dresses. A private memorial is being planned.
