Obituary of Alfred John Schmoyer
Alfred Schmoyer, of Dunedin, passed peacefully at Suncoast Hospice - North Pinellas, on February 2nd after his long battle with Parkinson’s. He was 73 years old having been born to Les and Ernie (née Brown) Schmoyer in Allentown, PA on November 25, 1949. Al relocated to Florida in 1984, when he first discovered his new love of working on the water. His family and friends are deeply saddened by this devastating loss, but know he is no longer imprisoned by the disease that was robbing him of his memories, his ability to think clearly, walk with the pride he had earned through his beautiful labor for so many people, and the absolute joy he had when he was on the water doing what he loved. Al was the owner of The Dock Doctor where he built not only docks, boat lifts, and sea walls, but also relationships, all of which weathered well even through the worst hurricanes. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, beloved in-laws, and many friends who will now be able to welcome him with open arms, loving hearts, and broad smiles, just like he did in life. Al is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his stepson, Thomas Salakar, his daughter Morgan Macowski and her husband Andrew, and Al’s two grandsons, Benjamin and Luka. He is also survived by extended family and an abundance of friends/colleagues. We all love you Al and will miss your smile, hugs, generous spirit, and love. Contributions in memory of Al can be made to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, where he installed the heavy lift for transferring injured animals. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com/location/tampa-cremation for the Schmoyer family.
