Daugherty, Dorothy Elizabeth (1934 - 2021) Dorothy Elizabeth Daugherty was born to Nona Thankful VanDorn and George Martin Canfield in their home in Sheldahl Iowa on March 16 1934 and went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 11, 2021 with her family by her side at the Arbor Care Center in Tekamah Ne. Dorothy grew up and graduated high school in Sheldahl, then went to Iowa State Teachers College, where she graduated with an elementary teaching Degree. She taught kindergarten through third grades. She and Bill (William Duane Daugherty) met at the Madrid movie house in 1950 and were married July 10th of 1954. Together they raised 4 children in Ralston. Dorothy babysat and stayed home while the children were little. She worked as a cashier at Shavers Food Mart in Ralston, then became the Children’s Librarian at the Ralston Public Library. She truly enjoyed meeting and touching many lives, especially children. She retired after 37 years and continued as a Vanda Beauty Counselor. Dorothy was active in the Methodist women's groups, and the Ralston Community. She graced us all with her smile, kindness, her warmth, the twinkle in her eye. Most of all, with the love she had for the Lord. Dorothy is survived by her children, Greg (Janine) Daugherty, Chris Daugherty, Dawn Miles, and Kent (Sandy) Daugherty; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren and many Nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, parents Nona and George Canfield, sisters, Grace (Howard) Gibbons, Patricia (Deane) Tate and nephew.
