Sylvia Whitacre Hampton

Sylvia Whitacre Hampton was born May 25, 1929 in Lubbock, TX and joined her heavenly father on March 13, 2023 in Fort Worth, TX surrounded by her loving family. She was married to John Thomas Hampton on April 14, 1949. After graduating from Texas Tech University, she followed John to London, England where he served in the Air Force. In 1953 they moved to Midland, TX where they began their family and had 4 children. In 1963 the family moved to Farmington, NM where she found her love of the mountains and all they had to offer. Syl’s most favorite place was her beloved home in Lake Vallecito, CO. John and Syl returned to Midland, TX in 1967 where Syl taught Art at Midland Lee High School. It was upon their return that she found her love of jewelry making, started her own jewelry business, was a part of the garden club where she developed her love of flowers, and became an active Girl Scout volunteer. Syl’s final move was to Fort Worth, TX in 2010 to be closer to her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren more than anything. After John’s death in 2016, Syl found a companion in Bob Muirhead. She enjoyed his partnership and taking care of him until his death in August 2022. She was an incredible daughter, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She lived a very full life with extraordinary kindness, compassion, care, and love. She is survived by 3 children and their spouses; Kaye and David Moore, Terry Chisholm, and Tom and Dale Hampton; 8 grandchildren; Stephanie Bennett, Brandy Skidmore, Brett Chisholm, Kristin Moore, Melanie Swain, Andrea Cox, Whitney Moore, and Laura Hampton; plus 12 great-grandchildren and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John Hampton, son Whit Hampton, and companion Bob Muirhead. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Community Hospice, the Humane Society, Guide Dogs of Texas, or the charity of your choice. A celebration of Syl’s life will be held at Watermark at Broadway Cityview in the Parlor on Wednesday March 22, 2023 at 10:30am.
