Duane Howard Church Memorial Submitted by Ted Church

Duane Howard Church passed away in Port Angeles on July 25, 2020.

He was born the fourth of four children on Oct. 12, 1929 on a homestead in Phillip, South Dakota. After the homestead failed, his family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he grew up and married Cleeda Phipps in 1950. They moved to Morton in 1951 and raised their family of four children. He was active in the community and the Morton Church of God, which he built with the help of other church members. He built and repaired many of the houses in and around Morton. He was known for his helpfulness and honesty. He lived in Morton from 1951 to 2019 before he moved to a Sequim assisted living facility to be nearer to his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings and his wife, Cleeda. He is survived by his second wife, Mary, his four children, Ted (Melissa) of Torrington Wyoming, Don (Gayla) of Sequim, Mike (Deslie) of Sequim, Bobi (Ron Nilson) of Mineral, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Due to the Covid-19 public hysteria and his wishes, only an outdoor graveside service will be held.

His ashes will be interred into the memorial wall next to Cleeda Church at the Morton cemetery later. The family requests any memorials be given in his name to Double K Retreat, PO Box 98, Easton WA 98925.

It was an adventure every Sunday morning greeting Duane at the door at church. He always had a snappy, not quite insulting, but always fun word for me as he entered.
I’m caring for you all with great joy and sadness. I think Duane was a gem. Fun and funny, and ornery!! What a life you all must have had with him!🙏
