Vicki Pierce Moreland, 72, died at home in New Orleans, on October 8, 2021. She was born in Amarillo, Texas to Edith Buford Pierce and Elmer Lloyd Pierce, on October 14, 1948. Ms. Moreland spent most of her childhood in Alexandria, LA, and graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics, in May of 1971. In August of 1972 Ms. Moreland married the love of her life, Richard W Moreland, Jr. She began her career as clothing buyer for Godchaux’s in New Orleans. Upon the birth of her first child, Ms. Moreland left her job and was a devoted stay at home mother to the couple’s three daughters. In 1980, the family relocated to the Washington, D.C. area for Mr. Moreland to continue his career with the United States government. As their daughters entered school, Ms. Moreland worked as an Office Manager, eventually retiring from Rockville United Church. Ms. Moreland and her husband returned to their hometown of New Orleans in 2002 to begin the next chapter of their life. Ms. Moreland was a member of the Episcopal Church, most recently at Christ Church Cathedral. Ms. Moreland spent much of her time volunteering at Christ Church Cathedral, finding joy in her service and countless friendships within the church community. Ms. Moreland is survived by her three daughters and their spouses, Genevieve Lynn Moreland of Washington, D.C., Leslie Anne Moreland-Bishop and David Bishop of Clemson, SC, Amanda Pierce Moreland Ross and Jeffery Ross of Gulf Breeze, FL, and her three grandchildren, Drake James and Genevieve Lee Bishop, and Eleanor Marie Ross. Ms. Moreland is also survived by her two sisters and spouse, Virginia Pierce of Plaquemine, LA, and Lori and Bill Cress of Duncanville, TX; and her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard W Moreland, Jr., and her parents, Elmer and Edith Pierce. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, 2919 St. Charles Avenue on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 10 am, with internment in the Cathedral Columbarium. Vicki was humble and quiet, but when you knew her, she was insightful, compassionate, knowledgeable, pragmatic, and funny as hell. We were honored to have been her friends. Our world is diminished by her loss. Our condolences to all who love her.
