Mary Hinton Schepkin On Sunday, May 21, 2023, our beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt, Mary Hinton Schepkin of Ponte Vedra, FL, passed away peacefully in the company of her cherished husband and daughter. The love that Mary cultivated and nurtured in her 81 years on this Earth cannot be overstated. Mary was born in Scranton, PA, and was raised in Silver Spring and Chevy Chase, MD. She was an alumna of Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School, and earned her B.A. from Holy Names College in Oakland, CA. Mary began her career as a Planned Giving Officer at The University of California, Berkeley. She relocated to Winston-Salem, NC in 1996, where she served as the Director of Planned Giving at the Bowman Grey School of Medicine at Wake Forest University. In 2006, Mary moved to Tallahassee, FL to become a Planned Giving Officer at Florida State University. She retired to Ponte Vedra in 2014, where she settled into a close-knit community, and found friendships that brought her comfort and healing. Mary loved traveling, cruising, gardening, and cooking. She enjoyed her book club and meditation group. Mary held a deep faith and love for Jesus Christ and his teachings, while keeping an open heart to different spiritual paths. She welcomed diverse and intellectually stimulating perspectives. Mary was a lifelong learner and avid reader. She had a love and respect for all those in search of light and healing. In short, Mary was one of the most accepting and giving souls to grace this world, leaving a breadth of affection and warmth for all of God’s creatures in her wake. Mary leaves behind her beloved husband, Dr. Victor D. Schepkin, and her much loved daughters, Karen M. Torre, of Alexandria, VA, and Jennifer A. Torre, of Olympia, WA.
