Patricia Ann Spurlock

Patricia Ann (Williams) Spurlock, 89, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2022. She was born in Staunton, Indiana, on October 26, 1933, to Almeda (Silvers) Williams and Roy T Williams. She was one of six children including Mary Mercurio, Honora Forscutt, Don Shoemaker, Lee Shoemaker, Louise Shoemaker, and her surviving brother, Marc Shoemaker and his wife Scarlett. She married Dale Spurlock in 1956, who preceded her in death in 2005. Together, they raised eight children: David Spurlock, Daniel Spurlock, Doug Spurlock, Daryl Spurlock, Lise Spurlock DeLong, Joe Spurlock, Cathy Spurlock Morris and Felix Beranger. They had sixteen grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Nathan, Brittany, Dariann, Cindy, Lizzie, Breanna, Julie, John, Joey, Paul, Lisa, Clemence, Louise, and Agathe. Patricia received her Bachelor of Science degree in History and Art from Indiana University. Known for her joie de vivre and endless energy she was a painter, photographer, ceramicist and writer publishing two historic novels based on her family genealogy. She taught art at Shortridge High School and Meridian Academy of the Arts making life-long impact and friendships with countless students. She was Director of the Bartholomew County Historical Society and Executive Director of the Driftwood Valley Arts Council of Columbus, Indiana, where she produced numerous artistic exhibits and festivals (May Faire & Pop Fest), curated sculpture installations by renowned artists Jean Tinguely and Henry Moore, and twice received the Mayor's Community Arts Award before moving to Indianapolis in 1989.
