Mary Love Ochs

April 23, 1933September 19, 2020

Mary Love Ochs of North Vernon, Indiana, age 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 19, 2020. Mary was born April 23, 1933 to Booker Frances Simpson and Madge Clarice McCarnan Simpson. She was the youngest of four children: Frank, Minnie Childs, and Shirley Anne. Mary is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings.

Mary met her husband, Jim, of 68 years while in school and the pair were blessed with three boys: Gary, Jeffrey, and David. Mary was a long-time member of the Auxiliary of Gideon’s International as well as a co-owner of Ochs Home Furnishings for 35 years in North Vernon, Indiana. She also played piano and organ for church services at First Baptist Church in North Vernon and Seymour.

Mary counted her greatest loves in life as her savior Jesus Christ, her family, and the piano. She experienced the joy of all three whenever she sat at her piano playing music from memory for all who would listen. While she experienced tumultuous pain throughout her life, she never lost sight of the joy and sweetness her life held for her. She looked forward to the day her body would be whole in Glory, but relished in the beauty of her life here on Earth with the people she loved. Sharing music and her love for the Lord with friends and family is her lasting legacy that will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Mary is survived by her husband Jim Ochs, sons Gary Ochs (Chris), Jeff Ochs (Tammy), David Ochs (Rhonda), and seven grandchildren, Megan, Adam, Katie, Allie, Maddie, Ashley, and Zachary. She also leaves her legacy behind for three great-grandchildren, Esther, Evangeline, and Titus James.

A celebration of Mary’s loving, creative, enduring, and hopeful spirit will be held at Emmanuel Church’s Franklin Campus, 550 Homestead Blvd., Franklin, Indiana, on Friday, October 9th 2020. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm followed by a celebration of life service at 3:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made through Gideon Memorial Bible Program at www.sendtheword.org. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Neptune Society, where condolences may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com.

Jim and Family, we were so sorry to hear of your loss! I have many fond memories of Mary, and the Friends and Go groups! Jim and Mary were good friends to Mom and Dad (Billie and Willard). We pray that your many wonderful memories give you comfort, as you mourn while still rejoicing in her Home-going. Besides her Lord, she has many friends to rejoice with!!

Mary was such a special lady. Enjoyed being able to spend time with her at many ladies events. Also a great Sunday school teacher. I know she is rejoicing in her new home but will be greatly missed.

My sympathy , Jim, to you and your family. It seems like yesterday when you and Mary were a part of Fountain View. We have our memories.

Jim,
We are so sorry for your loss. I remember how kind and sweet Mary was to our grandsons while they were visiting us in FV. She let the boys ride her "very cool" tricycle! She was a very special lady. Ed and Barb Canfield

My husband RT, and I are saddened to hear of the passing of Mary. Several years ago we went to church together at Cornerstone Community Chuch in Seymour, IN. Mary and my husband were part of the praise team. Mary was such a good musician, but more importantly, she was a good Christian woman. She nearly always had a smile and a joke to share. She always would ask about the kids or anything to do with our family. She made us feel like we were her extended family. Jim was a little more quiet than Mary but was also a man living his faith. We are forever grateful for the blessed example Jim and Mary were to our family. We pray God's peace and love to invade your home.
Love,
R.T. and Teresa Tatlock

Jim and Family, my heart is sad. Mary was such a precious lady. I always felt uplifted after visiting with her. Even though she was in pain, she remained jovial and was fun to be around. May God bless all her loved ones
