Elisabeth Katherine Cridlin

July 22, 1941July 11, 2021

Elisabeth K Cridlin, aged 79, of Indianapolis, died peacefully at her home on July 11th, 2021. Born in Germany to Thomas and Elisabeth (Kessler) Mayer, Lis was the youngest of four children and the only girl. Growing up in post war Germany Lis learned to be scrappy, independent, plain speaking, and quick witted - traits that defined her throughout her life. As a young woman on a trip to a local swimming pool, Lis met a young GI, Jack W. Cridlin, who became her husband for 37 years until Jack’s passing in 2000.

Lis had three children whom she called “the proudest accomplishment of her life:” Norman Cridlin of Greenwood IN, Jim Cridlin of London, UK, and Jennifer Downey of Indianapolis, IN. Proud of her children, Lis adored her five grandchildren (Katie, Sophie, Jack, Patrick, and Simon) and great grandchild (River).

Lis loved her job of 25 years as a MSD Lawrence Township school bus driver. Her sewing, crafting, and gardening skills were legendary. A good friend to many, she may most be remembered for her plain speaking (love it or hate it, you always knew were you stood with her). A lifelong lover of classical music, Lis volunteered for years as an usher for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking friends and family to support the ISO

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Cridlin family.

Mrs Cridlin was a part of my St Simon life for as far back as I can remember. She was always so kind to me and my family. I will miss her laugh and great smile. Jenny, Jim and Norm I send my deepest sympathy. I'm sure your Dad was waiting with a huge hug for her!

I met Liz when I was a child and she first came to this country and later when she worked at Lawrence Township Schools. She was so smart and funny. She will be greatly missed.

Loved this woman. She was a standard at our track meets, keeping score, driving the bus and generally keeping kids in line, usually Norman, lol.
So many fond memories of the St. Simon days. Rest in peace Liz.

I remember Liz when she was driving the Saint Simon School bus. She was always so cheerful and had a great sense of humor.
She shared her Christmas Stollen recipe with me after a gathering where she served it. I have made it several times for my family. It is delicious.
Liz lived for awhile in my neighborhood in Valley Brook Village. I talked to her a few times when I saw her outdoors.
My condolences to all of you. She will be missed.
