Helen S Bowman
May 30, 1952 – November 16, 2022
Helen Bowman of Ocklawaha, Florida, was well loved for 70 years. She passed away in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, on November 16th after a long, courageous battle with Cancer. Helen was born on May 30, 1952 to Fred and Miriam Smalley in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Helen immediately brought joy and laughter into the world. She graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1970 as an honor student. After high school, Helen excitedly took a job as an administrative assistant at Fairhaven and shortly after went on to pursue a degree in Music at Heidelberg. Helen fell in love with music, taught piano lessons from her home studio and played the organ for numerous churches over the years. She also had a passion for insurance and helping those in need, kicking off a 30 plus year career doing both for Liberty Mutual Insurance and eventually FEMA. Helen was an avid seamstress and was extremely devoted in her faith. Her smile was infectious and her positivity radiated in everything she did. In 1975, Helen met her husband Dave at church camp in Templed Hills, Ohio. Helen and Dave fell almost instantly in love and had three children: Melissa, John and Jesse. Helen and Dave were married for over 43 years. Helen was a fiercely dedicated mom to her children, raising all three of them to go on to accomplish great things. Family came first and was above all else to Helen. The hole left by Helen’s absence will be impossible to fill, but the values taught and instilled in all that she touched will carry forth for generations. Helen was predeceased in death by her mother and father. Helen is lovingly remembered by her husband Dave; Daughter Melissa (and her husband Rick) of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; Son John (and his wife Kathy) of Parker, Colorado; Son Jesse (and his wife Michelle) of Liberty Township, Ohio; Five Grandchildren (Easton, Adam, Joel, Anna, and Evelyn); Sister Mary Jane of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; Sister Betty Lou (and her husband Joe) of Daytona, Florida; Brother Jim (and his wife Jennifer) of Upper Sandusky, Ohio and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Helen’s name to The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. A verse from Helen’s favorite song, Highlands (Song of Ascent) From the gravest of all valleys Come the pastures we call grace A mighty river flowing upwards From a deep but empty grave Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com/location/columbus-cremation for the Bowman family.See more See Less
