Obituary of Henry Wind Jr.
Henry “Bud” Wind, 96, peacefully passed away Wednesday, May 17th at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Fort Myers, Florida following a courageous battle with cancer. Bud was a graduate of Whitesboro Central School, class of 1945. He enlisted in the Navy and was a Seaman First Class during World War II. Upon returning home he worked at the family business, Wind’s Bakery in Whitesboro and later in electronics sales. In 1951, Bud married his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Cahill. They raised six children together in Whitesboro, NY. After retirement, Bud and Barb moved to Tangerine Woods in Englewood, Florida. Bud was very active in the community as a member of the “Lazy Daze”, a volunteer group that spends its time enhancing the community through various beautification and other creative projects. He was an avid bicycle enthusiast known throughout Tangerine Woods as the go-to guy for anything related to getting and maintaining bicycles. Bud was predeceased by his wife, Barbara; his parents, Henry W. and Ruth Roberts Wind; his three sisters, Murial Wilson, Virginia Lennon, Irene Hovey; and son-in-law Richard Gilliland. He is survived by his older brother William; his six children, Mary Ann (John) Spatharos, Kathleen (Frank) Powers, Donna (Robert) Heebner, Cynthia Gilliland, David (Sarah) Wind, Robert (Nancy) Wind along with fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A family memorial service will be held in Whitesboro, New York at the Grandview Cemetery at a future date.
