OBITUARY
Dorothy A. Diaz
February 15, 1943 – February 12, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a truly beautiful soul.
Dorothy A Diaz passed peacefully in her home on February 12th 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer. Known lovingly as “Dot” or “Dotty” to her friends, or Mimi by her only grandson and great granddaughters and respectfully as “Mrs. Diaz” or “Mrs. D” to her employees from the many restaurants she managed throughout her early career. Her exquisite skills for cleanliness and organization thrived throughout a plethora of different professions, including beauty technician like her mother Yolanda. As Dotty was a beauty queen in her youth, this was a natural profession in which she excelled. She found great joy in doing hair for her friends in the community where she spent her last decade fulfilling her dream of living by the ocean. Her outer beauty was only surpassed by her inner beauty. Dotty was a selfless, strong, and compassionate care giver in the healthcare industry. She helped care for and comfort those in need.
Dorothy was pre deceased by her mother and stepfather, Yolanda and Wayne Phipps, and her only child Lisa who also lost her battle to cancer. Dorothy was born in Philadelphia and spent most of her life in Pennsylvania where she built her own home on her farmland property. However, in her twilight years she chose to move close to the sea. In Florida Dorothy continued her work as a caregiver enjoying the warmth and tranquility of the ocean; along with her favorite Dunkin’ Donuts munchkins!
Just prior to her passing Dotty was able to realize a life long dream as she traveled to Italy. She absorbed the beautiful Italian culture and countryside as she did everything in life, with a kind and open heart.
Her friends and family take comfort in the fact that Dorothy’s lifelong love of the ocean will bring her eternal rest as her ashes are scattered at sea. Rest in peace Dotty and know that you were and are loved.
