Thomas Paul McLean
September 30, 1949 – November 22, 2020
Thomas “Tom” Paul McLean, 71, of Westmont, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Westmont Manor Care. He left behind his greatest life’s blessings, his children, Kevin (Brenda), and Kathy (David), and their mother Kathleen Irwin. He was the “fun-loving, goofy, life of the party” grandfather to Colin and Ethan McLean, and Jack, Lily and Quinn Yurkovich. Cherished brother to the late James (Dorothy), Richard (Nancy), Mary Francis (Ronald) Jezowit, David (the late Dell). Uncle to many. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Mary Frances Burnham and James McLean.
Tom was born and raised in Chicago, the city he loved. He attended St. Gregory High School. Soon after, he began his longtime career in management at Jewel Foods with many cherished memories. Later in life, he dabbled in business ownership of the former Balmoral Clark Tap. Many Andersonville residents were the recipient of his humor and good cheer. His path led him to Colorado, where he continued a career in grocery business. Missing family, he returned to Illinois and remained in the same field until retirement.
Sadly about a year ago, Tom had an accident which required long term care. Although in the beginning we had hoped for his recovery, sadly, he was never able to fully regain his strength. COVID caused extra restrictions, however, Tom was able to continue relationships with family and friends although not in person. It was evident through conversations with the staff at Westmont Manor Care that Tom shared his exuberant personality with many, and was considered a close friend.
Following his wishes, he will be cremated. Due to COVID restrictions, we will honor him privately, in hopes for a proper memorial in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greater Chicago Food Depository www.chicagosfoodbank.org
