Mario Adam Monocchio

Mario Monocchio, 101, of Tinley Park, Illinois, was born April 20, 1919 and passed away peacefully, August 1, 2020. Mario is survived by his two daughters, Karen Monocchio-McDillon and Janet Monocchio-Contant; 4 grandchildren, Gina McDillon-Kitakis, Julie, Jessica, and John Contant; 3 great-grandchildren, Brianna, Nicholas, and Mason Kitakis. He is further survived by cousins, nephews and nieces. Mario was preceded in death by his parents, Irene Gigliotti and Nicholas Monocchio; siblings, Dante “Danny”, Roman “Rummy”, Wilma, Edith, and Alfred Monocchio. Mario attended Bright Elementary School and Bowen High School. He was then drafted by the Army in 1943 during WWII and honorably discharged in 1945 under the rank of Corporal. Mario was an avid Jazz guitarist as he attended the Chicago School of Music via the G.I. Bill. He enjoyed going to restaurants (to flirt with the waitresses), eat doughnuts and drink coffee. His best friends were his brothers and sisters. He worked 40 years at Wisconsin Steel Works on the southeast side of Chicago. His mantra in life was "do the right thing". Services held privately.
