Obituary of Joseph "Joe" George Ferreira Jr.
Joseph “Joe” Ferreira passed away following a year- long battle with cancer. He was 75 years old. Joe was born in Oakland, California. He attended Pacific High School in San Leandro. Joe served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam war. He returned home, a decorated veteran, to resume a career as a firefighter for the Alameda Naval Air Station. In 1976 he became a firefighter for the City of San Leandro. He also served as union president for the San Leandro Firefighters Association. Joe spent most of his life in Northern California. He especially loved the foothills in the gold country, making his home in Sutter Creek and Greenwood. After retirement, Joe and his wife, Ellen, relocated to Georgetown, Texas in April, 2020. Joe was very active and happy in his retirement. He had numerous hobbies, including radio controlled vehicles, including tanks, cars, planes, and boats. He and his wife loved kayaking the lakes of northern California. Joe discovered a love for travel, visiting places including Hawaii, Alaska, Cabo San Lucas (Mexico), Belize, the US Virgin Islands, and his favorite, Italy. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Joseph Ferreira. He was the eldest of four children and is survived by brother, Ed, and sisters, Cindy and Linda. Joe is also survived by his loving third wife of 20 years, Ellen, four children: Yvonne, Michelle, Brian (Lisa), and Andrea (Ramon), and six grandchildren. Joe’s family would like him to be remembered for his life of service, to his country and his community. He was always happy to provide a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors.
