Obituary of Kian Louis Taylor
Kian Louis Taylor, age 26, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022. Kian was born June 21, 1995. Kian comes from Japanese kanji, meaning Powerful Peace. He was born on June 21, 1995, the first day of summer; the one day of the year with the most light. The brightest day, and Kian was the brightest light. He had long beautiful strawberry blond curls and when he grew a beard, it was the color of new pennies. Calming to be with, his kindness, empathy, physicality, stunning intellectual focus, and surprising openness about his mental health were at his foundation. He found creativity and comfort in his musicality, baking, and hiking. He valued curiosity and enjoyed learning. Kian graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 2017 with a BA in Molecular and Cell Biology with Honors, and was proudly involved in the research of CRISPR gene editing. He hated social injustice and challenged his physician mentors while in the Emory MD/PhD program to be more cognizant of their biases when working with patients of color. His intelligence and memory made learning look effortless as he pursued a PhD in Neuroscience. He spoke of tying together his knowledge of CRISPR with his budding knowledge of molecular neurology to find solutions to mental health issues. He wanted to seek solutions and not medications. He longed to make an impact. He worked so hard to find happiness and tried to surround himself with things he liked. He loved colors, especially turquoise. When the wind kicked up in the spring, he loved to watch the whirling seeds fall from the tree outside his bedroom window. All of life gave him so many possible things to think about. Warm and inspiring, he shared his light with us until the age of 26. The remaining members of Team Taylor: Mike, Laina, Nate, Kristin, and (soon to be) Colton, will live out the rest of their lives honoring the memory of Kian by encouraging curiosity and open mindedness, and helping to lift those around us. Maybe, working together, we can help in a way that would make Kian happy. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com/location/atlanta-cremation for the Taylor family.
